Post-Graduation Work Permit

Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)

Work in Canada After Completing Your Studies

The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) allows eligible international students who have graduated from a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada to stay and work full-time in Canada after their studies.

The PGWP is an open work permit, meaning you can work for any employer, in most occupations, anywhere in Canada.

At Kayan Immigration Services Inc., we help graduates apply correctly and on time — so they can gain valuable Canadian work experience and move closer toward Permanent Residency.

How Long is a PGWP Valid For?

Your PGWP length usually depends on the length of your study program:

  • Less than 8 months → Not eligible
  • 8 months to less than 2 years → Permit may match your program length
  • 2 years or more → Up to 3-year PGWP

Some students may qualify for only one PGWP in their lifetime.

Who is Eligible for a PGWP?

You may be eligible if you:

  • Completed a full-time program of at least 8 months
  • Studied at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI)
  • Maintained valid student status during your studies
  • Received official written confirmation of program completion
  • Apply within the allowed time after completion

Eligibility rules can change — we always verify before applying.

Why PGWP is Important

  • Gain Canadian work experience
  • Improve eligibility for Permanent Residency programs such as:
